GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition (BHAN) includes undergraduate programs in Applied Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, and Health Behavior Science (including a Health and Disability concentration).  There are master’s programs in Human Nutrition and Health Promotion, and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Medical Sciences. BHAN has over 800 students, and is known for dynamic teaching and rapidly growing research. Ranked second, nationally, among the best places to study the health professions by College Factual, the College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 2500 undergraduate students, approximately 400 graduate students and 100 faculty with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. The College also includes the departments of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, as well as the School of Nursing. The College has just recently opened an exciting new clinical research facility on the University’s Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) campus.  With annual research expenditures in excess of $13 million, the college currently houses several large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD.

San Francisco State University, Department of Kinesiology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Adapted Physical Education/Activity (APE/A) beginning August, 2016. The department seeks individuals whose emphasis is in promoting physical activity in persons with disabilities across the lifespan including healthy children and healthy aging, and school/community-based programming and interventions. The department has about 800 majors and offers two bachelors’ (Exercise and Movement Science, and Physical Education) and a master’s degree. The department embraces an interdisciplinary approach to Kinesiology that emphasizes the influence of the form, function, and effectiveness of movement and physical activity across the lifespan and for special populations, such as individuals with disabilities or chronic diseases.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a sub-discipline of Kinesiology. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply, but must have completed their doctoral degree by the first day of the appointment. Candidates should have strong experience in K-12 and college teaching, and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary department as a member of a team and within a multicultural and diverse academic setting. Candidates must demonstrate effectiveness as a teacher as well as the ability to teach courses in the areas of Adapted Physical Activity and Education.

Candidates must have an active record of scholarship related to the position and evidence of external support or the potential for external funding of these activities are expected. Interest and ability to extend expertise into the community is desirable. Preference will be given to those with a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity or those with teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body.

Responsibilities:
The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in APE/A, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in APE/A, and ongoing committee and service assignments.

Rank and salary:
Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.

The Position:The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate classes in adapted physical education and related areas. The position requires excellence in teaching and career advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment touniversity and community service. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses in adapted physical education, supervise student teachers, and establish and maintain a funded scholarly research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing M.S. degrees. The candidate is also expected to be active in professional societies and serve on department, college, and/or university committees. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide leadership in advancing the goals of adapted physical education on local, regional, and national levels including ultimately being a part of the leadership team of the existing Motor Development Clinic at Cal Poly Pomona. Applicants whose work incorporates disabled children and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply. 

Minimum Qualifications:By September 1, 2016, the candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in adapted physical education, pedagogy, kinesiology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. The successful candidate must (1) demonstrate proficiency in college teaching of adapted physical education, (2) provide evidence of scholarly achievement, (3) demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, and (4) demonstrated interest in and evidence of capacity to lead the Cal Poly Pomona Motor Development Clinic.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with (1) teaching experience in K-12 adapted physical education settings, (2) ability to teach motor development, or motor learning/control, or pedagogy theory, (3) ability to secure grants and other funding.

Position Information: South Orange County Community College District Adapted Kinesiology Instructor - Part-time Pool.

Position Summary: Instruct classes as assigned. Participate in general faculty functions related to the educational program and in-service activities. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.

The successful candidate must have fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in adapted physical education AND meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Master’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education with emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, adaptive physical education from an accredited college or university
  2. Bachelor’s in any of the above from an accredited college or university AND Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, kinesiology, physical therapy from an accredited college or university.
  3. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above (candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit the Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination form in addition to all other required materials)
  4. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).
